Wedding Stationary - Kate & Andrew
The clients, Kate & Andrew, asked for traditional wedding invitations using modern copperplate calligraphy, the colour red, and the DL paper size. A sit down with the family resulted in several preliminary sketches for the overall desired layout, as well as establishing the phrasing and ‘feel’ of the invite. A very traditional and formal ‘feel’ was decided on, which reflects the couple themselves.
A 330gsm bright red cardstock was chosen to reflect the colour theme of the wedding itself - with the Bridesmaids wearing red dresses in a similar shade, and the groomsmen donning red ties. A lightweight, cream coloured paper-stock with a subtle gold sparkle was chosen to beautifully compliment this very bright red & white colour theme.
With the materials, colour, wording and calligraphic styles decided, I developed several prototypes to show the client, before finalising the design. I then hand-made over 80 invites, each featuring the couple’s names in hand calligraphy, and a hand-written envelope, with addressee names in copperplate gold and black ink postal addresses, to match the paper stock and writing on the invite itself. As a final touch, small and simple circular stickers were designed, printed and cut for the sender’s address on the back of the envelope.
The same style was later crafted into place cards for the wedding reception, cutting, glueing, scoring, and hand-lettering over 120 place cards, using the same paper-stocks and ink for consistency.
