Digicomm Typeface

This typeface aims to represent digital culture, and symbolise the tangible and material background of modern communications.

After significant material exploration, I came across an old laptop which I took apart to study the circuitry and alien-like pieces that make up such a smart device. The organised chaos inside provided inspiration for this typeface. The contact sheet connecting the keyboard to the motherboard in particular, became the inspiration for this font, transforming these metacommunications into type. Solder dots and sharp circuit angles were used to create the basic letterforms, before being refined into a full typeface.
